NEWS: International Photo Exhibition Israel from the 23.11. - 2.12.22 in Tel Aviv and February 2023 in Eilat

Very proud that 3 of my pictures were chosen by SID - Society for International Development Israel, to participate in this prestigious exhibition together with well know photographers.

My picture "the dancing women" was also used to publish the event.

That's how "River of Hope" is connected with Israel.

River of Hope’s founding was sparked by the work of Dr. Nathaniel Doron, my father is law (Israel), a Holocaust Survivor, a former UN Official and Diplomat, and our Honorary President, who dedicated his life to fighting poverty, famine and AIDS across the globe. In his relentless engagement, he positively touched the lives of thousands of children and adults in the most needing parts of Africa, Asia & Latin America. He sadly passed away in July 2019 in Israel, but as he continues to inspire us with his smile, compassion and devotion to making this world a little better.

Nathaniel Doron (my father in law) named his biography "River of Hope".

"Dancing Women"

Description of the picture: After we built the first classroom in our center "Tala Mosika", we started straight away with the illiterate program for women who live in the villages around us. The reason we chose this is that the women are in charge of the wellbeing of the family and we knew they will forward to their family and friends the message we give at the center, that knowledge is valuable in daily life. Most of these mothers indeed sent their children to our school. Some of the children started learning at quite a mature age, which was a challenge for us. We also empower women by offering them different workshops in agriculture. Further programs to raise awareness are planned in collaboration with local institutions.

ב 2012, אחרי שהכיתה הראשונה נבנתה במרכז שלנו "טלה מוסיקה", התחלנו מיד בתוכנית לימוד קרוא וכתוב עבור הנשים שחיו בכפרים שמסביב. הסיבה שבחרנו בפעילות זו היא שהנשים הן אלו שאחראיות על ruuj, המשפחה, ורצינו שהן יפנימו ויעבירו הלאה את המסר שלנו, שידע והשכלה חשובים לחיי היומיום. רוב האמהות שהשתתפו בתוכנית אכן שלחו את ילדיהן לבית הספר שלנו. חלק מהילדים התחילו ללמוד בגיל מבוגר יחסית, וזה היה אתגר גדול עבורנו. בנוסף, אנחנו מעצימים נשים דרך תוכניות לימוד בנושאים חקלאיים. תוכניות נוספות להעלאת המודעות מתוכננות בשיתוף המוסדות המקומיים.

"LOOK BEYOND"

Description of the picture: The name of our center is "Tala Mosika"; which means in Lingala, the local language: "Look Beyond". We are located in a vulnerable area 60 km outside of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Most parents are illiterate, and most children have never gone to school before, or went only for 2-3 years. One of the reasons is that the kids have to help at home by getting water from the river, working in the fields or collecting wood for charcoal. Our center offers a safe environment and is surrounded by 3 villages, offering a safe way to school away from the dangerous main road. In our 10th year of existence we can count over 500 children from 1st to 12th grade. These kids are no longer spectators but become a valid part of society. Education is a fundamental human right and the best way to get out of the poverty cycle and empower them to become a part of their own development.

שמו של המרכז שלנו הוא "טלה מוסיקה", בשפה המקומית (לינגלה) משמעותו היא "הסתכל מעבר". המרכז ממוקם בשטח עני במשאבים, כ 60 קמ מקינשאסה, בירתה של הרפובליקה הדמוקרטית של קונגו. רוב ההורים אינם יודעים קרוא וכתוב, ורוב הילדים מעולם לא למדו בבית הספר, או למדו רק שנתיים-שלוש בלבד. אחת הסיבות לכך היא שהילדים נדרשים לעזור במשק הבית בהבאת מים מהנהר, עבודה בשדה, או איסוף עצים לפחם. המרכז שלנו מהווה סביבה בטוחה וממוקם בין שלושה כפרים, כך שהילדים יכולים להגיע אלינו ללא צורך לעבור בכביש הראשי המסוכן. בעשר שנות קיומנו למדו אצלנו מעל 500 ילדים, בכיתות א' עד יב'. הילדים האלו כבר לא רק צופים מהצד, אלא מהווים חלק חשוב בהתפתחות החברה שלהם. חינוך הוא זכות אנושית בסיסית. והוא גם הדרך הטובה ביותר לצאת ממעגל העוני ולהעצים אותם כך שיקחו בעלות על ההתפתחות שלהם.

"ATTRACTION OF FOOTBALL"

Description of the picture: Football was the main reason why we started this project, 12 years ago in Kinshasa. We used the attraction of football to get the kids off the street, offering them a medical check, regular training, workshops about fair play, respect, health and hygiene, and a warm meal. Today we train at our football school "Tala Mosika", over 100 kids aged 8-18.

כדורגל היה הסיבה העיקרית שבזכותה התחלנו את הפרויקט, לפני 12 שנה, בקינשאסה. השתמשנו באטרקטיביות של משחק הכדורגל כדי להוציא את הילדים מהרחוב, להציע להם מעקב רפואי, אימונים קבועים, סדנאות בנושא משחק הוגן, כבוד, בריאות והיגיינה, וארוחה חמה. היום מתאמנים בבית הספר לכדורגל שלנו "טלה מוסיקה" כ 80 נערים, בגילאי 10 עד 18.

Our story in short

My name is Claudia Doron, founder and project manager of River of Hope, a small NPO. Me and my team kicked-off the project in Congo in 2010 without a cent and 2 suitcases filled with 46kg of football material outside Kinshasa in DR Congo.

In December 2012, we purchased in Selo, Kasangulu, Bas Congo, in the outskirts of Kinshasa, 4ha land. In Spring 2013 we could straight away start the construction of the center "Talal Mosika" thanks to all the sponsors and foundations. It is hard to believe that in fall 2015, just after 2 1/2 years we inaugurated our 7th building & 2 converted containers. In order to stimulate the local economy with a micro-economic approach and to achieve sustainability we needed to take many points into consideration: poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, clean water, renewable energy, economic growth, infrastructure, …Impressions: https://tala-mosika.jimdofree.com

+ We made all the bricks for our 8 buildings handmade on campus.

+ Our Center is solar powered - the next electric plug is 17km away.

+ We sent 4 - 20' Shipping Containers in the last 10 years.

+ We planted over 800 Acacias and 200 fruit trees

+ We educate over 500 children from grade 1-12

+ We offer football Training form U12 - U18
