NEW "Relo-Blog" with Claudia - Relocation Expert since 2006

News

Are you between 18+ and 80+ and about to relocate for the first time for your love, next career move, realising a dream, change in scenery or you simply wish to spend your retirement elsewhere?

That’s the reason why you should read this book.

Relocation is among the TOP-5 most stressful situations you can experience across a lifespan. Its more than physical exhaustion and logistics, it’s also about leaving places and loved once behind. You become invested, vulnerable and dependant.

Relocation is more than packing up your house, checklists and flight itinerary. It’s facing culture shock, change in lifestyle, dealing with the Verruca Salt Syndrome, getting out of your comfort zone, learning a new language, adapt to frugality and do not forget how challenging it is to your kids - and that’s what this book is all about.

Hi Claudia, I got your contact from a friend, who you relocated (without kids ;-). We are planning to move with the family to the french part of Switzerland, how can I prepare my kids 7 & 9 for this, I don't even know what to expect?

REPLY:  Dear Yael, thanks for contacting me. Moving with kids is a challenge, but what you can do, is discovering it together. There are many sites about the "Lake Geneva Region for kids" and if you like water, then the Aquapark in Le Bouveret might be a good start to have some family fun to start with. Organising a treasure hunt together to discover the neighbourhood, family restaurant, cinema, might also be cool, let the kids create a list of things the want to find. Depending where your kids to go school, they will integrate faster than what you think. Ask your Relocation Consultant for help, they might be able to connect you with other international families and groups. Wish you a great start in Switzerland.

Now what?

"The challenge of a spouse” - Boxes are unpacked, partner is at work, kids at school - now what ?

Partners of working Expats find themselves dropped in a new country, confronted with challenges on all angles. No matter what, changes require courage, a positive attitude and sometimes someone that guides you through the journey with a positive and inspiring attitude and solution focused approach.

Are you all set or do you wish, you would know who to ask for help? If yes, where are you stuck?

"TRAVELING is like an Appetizer - RELOCATION is like a pre-set 7 course menu, difficult to digest." What do you say to that?

From where to where did you relocate and what was your biggest challenge?

Hello Claudia, I found your post on facebook and just wanted to tell you that I agree with that expression. "Relocation is sometimes really difficult to digest." I moved to my partner from Europe to Asia. He is very helpful, patient and makes me feel welcome. I start to find my way around. So hear I am in my new home alone - no job (yet), no friends (yet) and try to learn the language. My family and friends at home are hardly contacting me - I most of the time need to make the first step and call them. They think that I do what I wanna do that all is fine and I have to be happy. They have no idea how hard this is, and that a chat in my mother tongue would do me so good. Is this also happening to others, or is it me?

Was nun?
